The charts below shows the broad disease burden of a high and a low income country.
The UK is a high income country that has gone through a Demographic Transition from having a high mortality rate, high birth rate and a predominantly young population to one that has a low mortality rate, low birth rate and a predominantly older population. Its disease burden is now from Non-Communicable Diseases.
The Central African Republic is a low income country that has not made this transition. Its disease burden is predominantly from communicable diseases, maternal and neonatal ill health and nutritional diseases. It is a country where there is ongoing conflict leading to a higher disease burden from injuries. The rise in the injuries around 2013/14 reflect a flare up in hostilities.
